GreenStage acquires space at Sand Point! As of June 1st, 2001, GreenStage will no longer be a theater company without a home. We will be housed at Sand Point, the former Navy facility, in building 30, which also houses several other non-profit groups. The Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation has been extremely helpful in making this move possible. As part of the move GreenStage will be acquiring plenty of storage and shop space, as well as access to rehearsal spaces and performance spaces. GreenStage will also be adding Sand Point / Magnuson Park to the Summer Shakespeare in the Park Schedule as of the summer of 2002. In January of 2002 GreenStage will be presenting Eugene O'Neill's play A Touch of the Poet at a to be determined space on the grounds at Sand Point. For several years GreenStage has been a theater company without a permanent location. Costumes, props and sets have been traveling from basements to Shurgard storage lockers (and Shurgard was very helpful by discounting the space, thank you.) Props and sets have been built in various garages, backyards and basements. Rehearsal space has been rented from many venues, begged and borrowed from schools, and wherever else there happened to be room. Performance spaces for our indoor shows have jumped around from Langston Hughes to The Nippon Kan to Richard Hugo House as well as several other venues, depending on availability and price. Now,
for the first time, we have a place to call home. One central
location to house everything GreenStage. The space we are moving
into at Sand Point is nearly five times the size of our current
combined storage units. As soon as possible, our mailing address
will also change to the Sand Point location. Additional details
will be posted on this web site as they become available.

GreenStage has been presenting Shakespeares plays in Seattle area parks since 1989 (originally as Shakespeare NW). Our season includes three productions per year with a total of over 50 performances. As Seattles veteran Shakespeare in the Park company, we are committed to presenting quality productions of classical theater in a manner that is available to all. Whenever possible we perform for free, collecting donations after each show. |
